I have a little girl that loves this device. She plays on it all day. She & I have been testing out the Little Scholars Tablet + accessories. When we first got it we opened it up, took off the protective cover, and started it up. We waited for it to load and it took a little bit for it to load up all of the information because it wasn't fully charged. We couldn't wait to charge it so we waited. It took about a minute or so to load everything up. We set it up and began to play. We love all of it's features. It comes with over 150 pre-loaded apps one in which she loves the best which is "Puzzle It Out". We also enjoy watching "Charlie and Company" videos. What I love most is that it has a report card feature so that you can monitor how well your child is exceeding in the learning apps. Another plus is there is no credit cards needed, no registration, no apps to download, no advertisements, and best of all no need to worry that your little one is going to see something you wouldn't want them to see. Once the system is fully charged it runs quick and smoothly gliding through apps, watching videos, and listening to the pre-loaded musical numbers. Skill building include: Letters, numbers, shapes, patterns, counting, math, letter sounds, matching, critical thinking, problem solving, hand-eye coordination and more. When you are doing well with the programs the tablet says "Great Job!" which encourages any child to be happy and proud of themselves that they are learning something new! It's always good to keep your child working their minds as the first 10 years of a child's life is most crucial to learning. All in all I think this is a great investment for your kids. Retails for $199

Schoolzone Learning Supplies

These Schoolzone workbooks and flashcards were so much fun to watch my girl sit and play. She sat and drew for hours trying to guess the right answers and she got most of them right, but I sat with her and quizzed her. Only because she demanded it! Haha. I kept going through the books and cards and she wouldn't stop until she got it right. These workbooks and cards are so colorful and very well illustrated so that children will be more drawn near to these. I know from personal experience! I know a lot of teachers use Schoolzone workbooks in their classes. So I definitely would recommend. Head out to Meijer Store's to find the Little Scholars Supplies!

GIANTmicrobes | Meningitis Plush Review

GiantMicrobes | Meningitis Plush

Meningitis can be a real headache – and a pain in the neck too. Learn how to stay clear of this fathead.

Facts: Meningitis is technically an inflammation of the meninges, or the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. It can be extremely dangerous.

There are a number of viral and bacterial causes of meningitis, but Neisseria meningitidis is the most common cause of the more serious bacterial meningitis in children (who are most susceptible to the disease), and one of the most common in adults. It is quite contagious, and often spreads through groups of close quartered individuals such as children in daycare-settings, college students, and military personnel.

The signature symptoms of meningitis include a severe headache and stiff neck - which, in extreme cases, can cause sufferers to arch backwards - as well as fevers and chills, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and sometimes purple or red splotches on the skin.

Spinal taps can be used to confirm suspected cases of meningitis. However, because N. meningitidis infections are responsive to antibiotics, precautionary treatments are often prescribed before test results are confirmed. (Those who have been in close contact with suspected carriers are also at risk and can be treated as well.)

And it's important to do so. Untreated, meningitis can lead to brain damage, loss of hearing - and even death.

Fortunately, there are now a variety of vaccines that can provide some protection against certain forms of meningitis. So use your head, and stay clear of this excruciating pain in the neck.

I think GIANTmicrobes is a great website to get these plush toys and other neat factual disease/infection themed merchandise. You could be asking yourself why in the world would I want this? Well, I think it's important to not only educate yourself with things such as this, but as well as educate your children about how important and life threatening diseases and infections can be. I think these would be great to use in teaching health classes and class in general. I think today children would rather see the visual and relate better to visual than verbal so this is a great way of teaching. I myself find things like this interesting to learn about. GIANTmicrobes magnify's the microscopic inflammations/bacteria such as 'Meningitis' to show you what it looks like without the use of a microscope.
